There
is a certain beauty to be found in the ordinary, overlooked things of
life which I call "everyday inspirations". This
unrecognized beauty fascinates me, and I attempt to reveal its
existence. I fill the composition with the objects or space and
present an unusual point of view in order to call attention to the
image, and provide new insights on viewing such ordinary scenes. The
things I choose to depict are in themselves unremarkable, but become
more interesting when seen as objects worthy of the time and study
necessary to become subject matter in a painting. In this way, my
pieces serve as a guide to fresh ways of noticing and observing the
beauty of the actual world around us. With practice, these fresh
ways of seeing lead to a greater enjoyment in common, everyday
sights.
I
am also exploring the balance between realism and abstraction in my
work. To create that balance I am experimenting with close-ups of
objects' structures, textures, and interesting compositions. While
formal issues such as placement, shape, color, and contrast are
considered for abstraction purposes, it is equally important that the
image remains recognizable.
